Local businesses against offshore drilling sign surfboard, sent to D.C.
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A surfboard inked with hundreds of signatures opposing offshore drilling recently made it to Washington, D.C.
It went to the Department of the Interior Secretary and the White House.
The Surfrider Foundation spear-headed the campaign.
Small business owners from along the east coast including the Cape Fear came together to sign the board hoping to make a difference.
More than 30 of the 1,000 signatures were from this area.
“I think the surfboard made a really big impact just in the visualization aspect of it verses just handing over a piece of paper.” said Surfrider Foundation Cape Fear Chapter Board Member Amanda Jacobs. “We actually had this amazing visual with this cool eco-friendly wooden board with 1,000 signatures on it.”
Jacobs says if you oppose offshore drilling then you should let our lawmakers know by sending an email, or a letter.
