Local college student travels to D.C. for inauguration

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Luke Basso, a student at Cape Fear Community College with a strong interest in history, is in Washington D.C. for President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

This election season, Basso took an active role in advocating for voter turnout, encouraging his peers to become more involved in the political process.

Despite weather-related challenges complicating logistics, Basso believes attending the inauguration is an important experience. “My generation is going to be running this country in the next few decades, and I want to encourage people my age to take part in events like this,” Basso shared. “Even if you disagree with whoever is in office or not, it is still important to be aware and active and to have knowledge of what’s happening in our country.”

Basso attended the All-American Inaugural Ball and will be at the Victory Rally, all in preparation for Monday’s ceremony.
