Local leaders gather in Wilmington to promote EVs, oppose rollback of ‘clean car standards’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday morning, state representative Deb Butler joined other elected officials on Water Street in downtown Wilmington to spotlight electric vehicles.

At the press conference, Butler noted that electric vehicles provide cleaner air and are cheaper to operate. She finds that drivers spend nearly half as much on maintenance and repairs.

The speakers urged the public to join in the defense for the state’s cleaner future. They also encouraged the public to send comments to the EPA to oppose their proposal to roll back ‘clean car standards.’

This event was part of the national ‘Freedom to Drive’ summer event series focused on how EV’s are delivering cost savings, jobs, and cleaner air across the country.

Wilmington City Councilmember David Joyner was also in attendance.

David Baldwin, owner of Green Wave Electrical Contractors, Olivia Drewry, RN, Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments were also at Tuesday’s event.
