Local teens attend World Youth Day with Pope

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This week young Catholics from around the world are gathering in Kraków, Poland, for World Youth Day.

A group of teens from St. Mark’s Parish in Wilmington are among the 18,000 in attendance.

Father Michael Burbeck and Youth Ministry Leader Melissa Quaranto are heading up the group.

The trip includes prayer, music and a chance for young Catholics to meet and share their faith.

Thursday, Pope Francis welcomed the crowd and led a prayer service.

The Holy Father will cap off the six day event with Mass on Sunday.

The group returns next week.
