Local voters react to first Harris-Trump presidential debate

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tuesday night’s presidential debate provoked reactions across the country.

We wanted to know how registered voters in the Cape Fear are feeling about the first, and potentially last debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, we headed downtown Wilmington to see what some voters had to say.

“Kamala trumped Trump because Kamala is more for the people, and I see that Trump really isn’t,” one voter expressed.

“Don’t think either one of them answered questions the way they were asked. Especially Trump was poignantly asked a bunch of yes, no questions and he just rambled on,” another voter said.

“I thought it was pretty interesting what Trump had to say. I think he’s going in the right direction,” one voter noted. “I don’t really have any beliefs or anything about that stuff, my family’s just more towards that way and I’m just going to agree with them.”

“I thought Kamala Harris did an amazing job,” another voter said. “I thought she did a great job at getting under his skin for sure. It’s unfortunate that he can’t focus on policy and really tell the American people what they want to know, versus comments like, you know, they’re eating cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio.”

“I think everything is political theatre. Like none of these people actually represent what’s interested, what people care about. Right wing, left wing, two wings of the same bird. They flip flop, Kamala probably had Republican policies, Trump probably had liberal policies. They’re just trying to say what they can to get elected,” one voter expressed.

“I really appreciated how they were able to be like ‘hey, that’s actually not what happened, there were no reports of people’s dogs and cats getting eaten in Springfield, was it,” one voter said.

“Or the transgender experiments going on. That one was interesting as well,” another voter replied.

“You have to trust in your fellow Americans that they want the best for the country too. You might not agree on your policies, but don’t hate. That’s anti-American,” one voter noted.
