Look Ma, No Warrant: Sheriff offers Mother’s Day gift

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says even wanted criminals should have a chance to spend worry-free time with their moms on Mother’s Day.

Lott said his deputies will spend eight hours with magistrates and court officials on Saturday dealing with anyone who has an outstanding warrant.

The sheriff says defendants can have a bond set immediately or pay fines if that would prevent them from going to jail.

The event started at 8 a.m. Saturday at the M.L. Smith Child Development Center on Farrow Road.

Lott says he hopes anyone who gets a warrant taken care of then spends Sunday with their mothers on their special day because time with a loved one is the best gift of all.
