Lt. Gov. Hunt visits Brunswick Community College in first stop on state-wide tour

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt toured Brunswick Community College on Thursday, kicking off a state-wide tour.

In her first official visit to the Cape Fear after her election in November, the lieutenant governor toured the college’s nursing and welding programs before speaking to an audience of college leaders and faculty.

Thursday’s visit was the first stop on what Hunt is calling her Future-Ready Community College Tour.

Hunt plans to tour each of the 58 community colleges across the state, and report back on what she’s learned to the NC Community College Board.

Hunt said her goal is to bolster the amount of young people getting a solid, affordable education.

“Just hearing their [students] stories, why they’re here, what they’re learning, how this will change their lives, there’s nothing like that. First-hand knowledge is what I’m getting and what I’m going to take back,” Hunt explained. “What I’ve seen here today is an incredible level of training that these students are going to get, and they’re going to be absolutely ready for the jobs of the future.”

During the visit, Hunt highlighted Propel NC, a newly proposed funding model for community colleges based on workforce demand.
