Lt. Governor Mark Robinson makes campaign visit to Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One candidate for Governor came to the Cape Fear to meet with supporters Friday.
Lt. Governor Mark Robinson made a stop in Wilmington as he is running for governor against Attorney General Josh Stein.
Robinson spoke at an event at Carolina Barbeque on College Road, where he said having good policy will be the most important focus of the election.
He said the state’s economy will be his #1 priority.
“It’s our economy and I say this all the time,” Robinson said. “You say the economy, it sounds like a single issue, but it’s not. Our economy is propped up on 5 pillars. The pillars of public safety, public education, healthcare, infrastructure and housing. Why is that important to the Governor? Because its going to be the Governor whose going to put the people over the agencies that hold sway over that.”
Robinson also spoke about some the things western North Carolina needs as it recovers from Hurricane Helene.
“I know some of ya’ll woke up and said, ‘Whoo it’s a little chilly out here!’ Think about what it’s going to be like in the mountains for a few weeks. It’s going to be very cold. Plenty of people have lost everything: lost their homes, their clothes; everything. We’ve got to help get those folks ready for winter. We’re going to need clothes; we’re going to need propane tanks; we’re going to need space heaters; all that good stuff.”
Stien’s office said the Department of Justice has received 308 complaints alleging Helene-related price gouging.
Most complaints are related to groceries, hotel costs, and fuel prices and about businesses largely in Buncombe, Henderson and Cleveland Counties.
