Lucky puppy up for adoption

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — ‘Clover’, the sole survivor of an animal abuse case last month is available for adoption at the Onslow County Animal Services.

Animal services accepted the Chihuahua mix puppy and gave it veterinary care and was placed with a foster family as it recovered. The puppy was nicknamed ‘Clover’ because staff said he was lucky to be alive.

Last month, and Onlsow County woman was accused of killing two dogs by leaving them locked in a bathroom without food for a month. But the third dog, Clover, survived.

According to warrants, 26-year-old Kimberly Eudy Rice is charged with two felony counts of killing an animal by starvation and a misdemeanor count of mistreatment of animals.

The alleged abuse happened at Rice’s home outside Richlands, investigators said. The dogs were found on Sept. 3 after someone called 911.

The eight-week-old puppy has recovered well and appears to be happy and healthy.
