Man accused of pointing gun at Wilmington police officers faces more charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man accused of pointing a gun at police appeared in court on Friday morning and also faces more charges.

Savion Wilson, 23, is facing additional firearm and drug related charges following an investigation by the WPD Criminal Investigation Division.

He was initially being held for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Law Enforcement Officer, Firearm by Felon, and Wearing of Mask/Hood on Public Way.

On the night of December 27, police say they spotted a man, later identified as Wilson, in the area of 14th and Nun St. riding a bike and wearing a ski mask.

When the bike rider noticed officers, he allegedly jumped from his bike and ran off. As the person was running, officers spotted a gun in the persons hand. According to a news release, officer yelled at Wilson to drop the gun. Police say an officer fired shots at Wilson when he began to turn around with the gun.

Wilson was shot and taken to the hospital in serious condition.

In court on Friday morning he was ordered held without bond.

His additional charges include Possess a Weapon of Mass Destruction, which is in relation to his modified conversion device located on the firearm, PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance, M/S/D/P Controlled Substance within 1000 Feet of School, Carrying a Concealed Weapon-Firearm, Resisting a Public Officer, and Fail to Display Lighted Lamp on Front of Bicycle on Public Street at Night.
