Man accused of trying to swap sex for community service

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies say a man is facing charges after trying to swap sex for community service hours at the American Legion Post 10.

Deputies say David Hartley was arrested last Thursday after an undercover operation. Detectives say they were contacted by the NC Probation and Parole office that several complaints were filed in their office about Hartley.

Hartley serves as the commander of American Legion Post 10. Part of that position, deputies say, supervises probationers who are assigned to perform community service at the location. Hartley is accused of propositioning females for sex in exchange for less time on their community services.

Hartley has been charged with obtaining property by false pretense and obstruction of justice.
