Man arrested after barricading himself inside a Whiteville gas station

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A man was arrested after barricading himself in a Murphy’s Gas Station in Whiteville, deputies say.

According to Columbus County Sheriffs Office, the subject locked himself inside the store on December 6th. When deputies arrived, they surrounded the gas station. then 10 minutes later, the subject exited the store holding a knife.

Deputies discharged their tasers and restrained the subject. He was transported by Whiteville Rescue to Columbus Regional Hospital for evaluation.

Prior to the incident, the subject had placed 14 calls to Columbus Central’s emergency line, repeatedly hanging up after providing minimal information.
