Man arrested after gun found at Richlands Elementary School

RICHLANDS, NC (WWAY) — On Wednesday, deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to Richlands Elementary School for a conflict.
School staff were made aware of potential conflict between Spencer Oluich, 29, and the mother of his children, who are students at the school.
According to the press release, staff notified the school resource officer (SRO) after Oluich became agitated during the conversation. Oluich was escorted outside where it was determined that he had driven to the school with a suspended driver’s license.
During an investigation, the SRO found a pocketknife and handgun on Oluich.
He was taken into custody without further incident.
Oluich is charged with felony gun on educational property and misdemeanor weapon on educational property. The sheriff’s office says more charges are pending.
In the press release, the Onslow Sheriff’s Office said, “the quick response of school staff and law enforcement ensured no students, staff, or visitors were harmed during this incident.”
The investigation is ongoing.
