WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police arrested a man Monday night after a reported vehicle break-in led to a foot chase and K-9 search.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded shortly after 9 p.m. to the 4900 block of New Centre Drive after receiving a call that someone was breaking into a vehicle. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had already left, but security camera footage provided a picture to officers.

Roughly 30 minutes later, one of the responding officers spotted the suspect walking in the 4300 block of Market Street. When the officer approached him, police say the man took off running.

Additional officers set up a perimeter, and a WPD K-9 team joined the search. Police say the K-9 and coordinated efforts of the officers helped track down and arrest the suspect a short time later.

The man was identified as Wilmington resident Brannan Scott, 27. He is charged with breaking or entering a motor vehicle, resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Scott was taken before a magistrate and received a $5,000 secured bond.
