Man arrested after WPD discovers property damage from Thursday night shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man has been arrested following a Thursday night shooting in Wilmington.

Wilmington Police say they were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to the 1400 block of Corbett Street in reference to reports of shots being fired.

Officers say they located property damage when they arrived.

Ashton Burns, 28, was located nearby and police say he resisted when officers attempted to find out what he was concealing.

Police say he was arrested and found to be in possession of a handgun.

Burns is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Resist/Delay/Obstruct.

He is being held under a $3,000 secured bond.

Wilmington Police later clarified that Ashton Burns is not facing charges related to the shooting that happened on Corbett Street.

A WPD spokesman said after an extensive investigation detectives learned Burns was not involved in the actual shooting; however, he is still facing the two charges.

This investigation is currently ongoing.
