Man arrested for allegedly attempting to obtain narcotic prescription with fraudulent note

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A man has been arrested by the Shallotte Police Department for allegedly attempting to obtain a controlled narcotic prescription with a fraudulent prescription note.

Shallotte Police responded to a pharmacy in Shallotte around 1:20 p.m. on March 12th, immediately arresting Randy J. Jefferson Jr. and charged him with Attempting to Obtain a Controlled Substance by using a fraudulent prescription and served a warrant for his arrest for an unrelated incident from 2020 out of Mecklenburg County.

Jefferson is also wanted by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office in NJ for failing to appear in court on previous drug charges stemming from fraudulent prescriptions.

This investigation was conducted along with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI). The NCSBI has been attempting to locate Randy Jefferson since September 2023. Randy Jefferson has obtained multiple narcotic prescription medications in New Hanover County from multiple pharmacies, according to police. They say Jefferson also passed several fraudulent prescription notes in South Carolina as well.

Jefferson is currently being held at the Brunswick County Jail under a $200,000 secure bond and will be served with his outstanding charges from neighboring NC counties.
