Man arrested on drug trafficking charges
WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on drug charges.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies searched a home on Mount Moriah Church Road on April 30th after getting numerous complaints about the illegal sale and distribution of drugs there.

Detectives seized multiple types of narcotics and arrested Joseph Stephens.
Stephens was charged with:
- (8) Felony Counts – Trafficking in Opium or Heroin
- (4) Felony Counts – Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
- (3) Felony Counts – Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule IV Controlled Substance
- (1) Felony Count – Maintaining a Place for a Controlled Substance
- (1) Misdemeanor Count – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
