Man charged after disturbance with knife at Market Street children’s clinic

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing multiple charges after police say he entered a children’s clinic with a knife and later attempted to stab an officer Wednesday morning.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded just before 9 a.m. to the 3000 block of Market Street for a reported disturbance involving an armed man.
Police said 49-year-old Adrian Tribble, of Wilmington, entered a nearby children’s clinic and learning center while carrying a knife and caused a disturbance. Staff members were able to quickly remove him from the building.
Investigators say Tribble also tampered with vehicles parked outside the clinic before leaving the area.
Officers later located Tribble on Montgomery Avenue and attempted to detain him. During the encounter, police said he became combative and resisted arrest. While an officer was trying to take him into custody, Tribble allegedly made a stabbing motion toward the officer with the knife. The officer was able to disarm him.
Tribble was taken into custody and transported by EMS to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation and treatment.
He is charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer; assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer; and tampering with a motor vehicle.
Tribble is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office detention center.
