Bet ends in arrest, thousands of wasted dollars due to drunk swimmer

UPDATE: According to documentation Lamberti submitted to WWAY, he completed an alcohol education program on April 15, 2019, making his charges eligible for dismissal and eventual expungement.

A drunken bet at the bar resulted in thousands of dollars wasted and an arrest.

“I see a guy stand up and take his shirt off and I look at him and go, ‘What are you doing dude? You going to go streaking?’ and he was like, ‘No, I’m going to go swim out to that boat out there,” said Brad Fregeolle, a server at Molly Darcy’s.

Brad Fregeolle says he’s seen his fair share of drunken antics while working at Molly Darcy’s in North Myrtle Beach.

“I just didn’t really pay him any attention and ten minutes later, he slowly walks down to the beach and gets in the water,” said Fregeolle.

Someone apparently bet Richard Lamberti of Columbia, Md. he couldn’t swim 400 yards to the boat.

“Navy seal, trained to do it, and it was an $100 bet. The guy said ‘I bet you can’t do it’ and he went and did it,” said Fregeolle.
