Teen charged after report of man with gun downtown

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is facing charges after police say reports of a man with a gun downtown ended with a scuffle with officers.

Police say they got the call Monday afternoon just before 2:30 p.m. in the 100-block of Chestnut Street that a man was in the area with a gun. When officers arrived and approached a man matching the description, they say there was a struggle before the man was arrested. Police say Kyle Chase Cheek, 18, was found with a revolver in his book bag.

He’s facing charges including go armed to the terror of the people and resist/delay/obstruct public officers. Police say one of their vehicles was slightly damaged in the struggle.
