UPDATE: Carolina Beach police officer charged following deadly pedestrian crash on South College Road

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Carolina Beach police officer has been charged following a deadly crash with a pedestrian on South College Road last weekend.
The Wilmington Police Department charged Cavin Sydes with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Speeding.
“We are aware of the incident and charges by Wilmington Police. We are currently conducting an administrative investigation,” a spokesperson for the Carolina Beach Police Department said. “Cavin Sydes is currently on administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation. We cannot comment any further on the incident at this time due to the ongoing investigation.”
The investigation revealed that while the pedestrian, Steve Barlok, was in the roadway, the driver of the vehicle was speeding at the time of the incident, according to police.
