Man charged with felony child abduction after incident at Ogden Park

OGDEN, NC (WWAY) — According to Lt. Jerry Brewer with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the baseball fields at Ogden Park just after 9 p.m. Friday night in reference to a reported fight between a man and other adults.

James Raymond Gallagher, 55, attempted to leave the area in his vehicle however he was stopped by deputies before leaving the park.

Lt. Brewer says after further investigation, the fight had been a result of Gallagher reportedly attempting to entice children into his vehicle by offering them money.

A victim stated that as he was playing with other children in the park Gallagher offered him money to get into his vehicle with him. The victim refused, ran away, and notified his grandmother, according to Lt. Brewer.

Additional children are believed to have had contact with Gallagher offering the same incentive.

Detectives are currently searching for any additional victims from the baseball park.

Gallagher is charged with Felony Abduction of Children and DWI. He is being held at New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $25,500 secured bond.
