Man charged in hit-and-run that killed Wilmington teen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The NC Highway Patrol has arrested a 33-year-old man in connection to the hit-and-run that killed a Wilmington teenager Sunday night.
Ethan Blackburn was taken into custody late Tuesday night at a home in the Landsdowne Estates neighborhood. He is charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.
Blackburn was booked into the New Hanover County Detention Center and released early Wednesday morning on a $50,000 secured bond.
The arrest follows an investigation into the crash that killed 15-year-old Conor Mahoney.
Troopers say Mahoney was skateboarding southbound along South College Road near Hidden Valley Road around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle that continued driving south without stopping.
Mahoney was pronounced dead at the scene.
Blackburn’s first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story said Blackburn was arrested Monday and released Tuesday morning. We apologize for the error.
