Man charged with felony hit-and-run makes first court appearance

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man charged with hit and run, following a deadly accident on June 29th, made his first court appearance on Thursday.

33-year-old Ethan Blackburn is charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.

Blackburn is accused of hitting and killing 15-year-old Conor Mahoney.

Mahoney was riding his skateboard along South College Road when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

Blackburn is out on a $50,000 bond, the maximum allowed for the charge, and he faces up to 59 months in prison, also the maximum allowed for the charge.

As part of his pre-trial release, he will have a curfew and is prohibited from consuming alcohol.

But due to working 2 jobs, Blackburn will be allowed to drive.

His next court date is July 24th.
