Man charged with kidnapping child in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wrightsville Beach man faces charges after a kidnapping in downtown Wilmington.

According to arrest warrants, Daniel Jason Summers, 44, is charged with second degree kidnapping, assault on a child under 12, and resisting arrest. Summers is charged for “confining the victim, restraining the victim without the consent of the victim’s parent or legal guardian, and for the purpose of terrorizing” the child and “forcefully wrapping both his arms” around the child without consent.

Police arrested Summers at 10 N. Front Street around 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Summers is currently being held without bond. His first court appearance is set for Monday. Summers was taken for medical care, so a mug shot is not yet available.
