Man charged with trying to trade meth for a gun to kill ex-wife

DUNLAP, TN (WDEF) — Tennessee police say a meth investigation led them to a murder plot.

Dunlap detectives were investigating Charles Henry Skibbe for distributing meth in the area.

But they say they learned that the convicted felon was also trying to buy a gun.

So they recruited the TBI, ATF and sheriff’s office to run an undercover operation on him.

An undercover officer contacted Skibbe.

The officer said Skibbe wanted the gun to murder his ex-wife and her friend.

They set up a meeting on Monday to sell him a 40 caliber pistol.

Police say Skibbe repeated the plot to kill his ex, and then produced some meth that he wanted to trade for the gun.
