Man comes home to find apartment cleaned out
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Imagine coming home from vacation and all of your belongings being gone. Well that is what one Wilmington man said happened to him.
“I went out of town for only two weeks,” said Travis Lyons. he said he has only lived at the Pines of Wilmington for about 10 months.
“I got a call, maybe 8:30 that morning saying that we had heard a rumor that you had moved. I said no ma’am I did not move. So maybe, I’d say three hours later I get another phone call saying it was a mix up we cleared your apartment,” Lyons said.
He said when he got to his apartment, everything was gone.
“They took everything from me. From clothes, shoes, tv’s, my living room set, bedroom set, my game system,” Lyons said.
Now he said he is sleeping on a borrowed air mattress and living with the help of friends and family.
“I had went to the office asked them have ya’ll heard anything? Are ya’ll going to replace my stuff? We just have to wait for corporate. It is going on three weeks. Nothing,” Lyons said.
We tried to speak with the manager in the apartment’s office as well. She told us she had no comment.
Lyons said although he is upset, most of his belongings can be replaced, but not everything.
“My grandmother’s stuff that she gave me as a kid. That cannot be replaced. And they don’t understand that. I just feel like they don’t understand how I feel,” Lyons said.
Lyons called us back after the interview and said the apartment offered him a check for $1,000 to replace his things. Lyons said he turned them down.
We contacted the Attorney General’s office who told us the steps Lyons needs to take to submit a claim and if that doesn’t work, he should contact an attorney and can also file a complaint with the AG’s office.
