Man convicted of attempted child abduction at GLOW Academy
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been convicted of attempted child abduction at a local school.
The District Attorney’s office say 38-year-old Jarvis Cliche Johnson entered a plea of no contest to charges of attempted abduction of children and attempted trafficking of cocaine in court on Tuesday.
Judge Frank Jones sentenced Johnson to 15-27 months active and ordered that he register as a sex offender for the next 30 years. He is also ordered to stay away from G.L.O.W. Academy and any location where minors receive educational or recreational instruction.
On October 29, 2019, students from the G.L.O.W. Academy were playing outside the school when they were approached by a man in a Chrysler 300. The man in the car, later identified as Johnson, asked the girls to get into the car with him in exchange for $500. The girls ran inside and immediately notified school administrators, who called the police.
Surveillance video from the area captured the license plate on the Chrysler, which was registered to Johnson.
One student was also able to identify Johnson in a photo lineup.
While out on bond for this charge, Johnson also acquired a drug charge. In March, Wilmington Police Officers were working with a confidential informant who purchased drugs at a home during a controlled buy. Johnson was present, and upon his arrest admitted to selling and packaging crack cocaine.
91.5 grams of cocaine was seized at the scene.
