Man dies following Market Street motorcycle collision with dirt bike

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man died following a Christmas Day crash on Market Street.

Wilmington Police say two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Market Street Monday around 6:30 p.m. when a dirt bike crossed the southbound lane at 10th Street. Market Street traffic did have a green light at the time, according to police.

A 14-year-old male and a 10-year-old male were on the dirt bike the motorcycle collided with.

The two riders of the dirt bike were ejected, with the motorcycle driver, 29-year-old Jason Tutchton, dying from his injuries at the hospital.

A second motorcyclist, 36-year-old John Paul, lost control and was ejected but suffered only minor injuries.

The two juveniles were transported to the hospital by EMS. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

This is currently an ongoing investigation being conducted by the WPD Traffic Unit.
