Man found guilty of assaulting a female in Oak Island

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — After a four-day trial, a Brunswick County jury found a man guilty of felony assault by strangulation, felony assault, and false imprisonment.

39-year-old Louis Blackburn, IV was sentenced to at least two years in prison. The State asked for the maximum sentence and the Judge sentenced him to the maximum sentence allowed by law.

According to the DA’s office, evidence showed that Blackburn assaulted a female friend at a house in Oak Island on January 24th. She was pushed to the ground, strangled, punched, slapped in the face, had a knife pulled on her, and locked in an elevator.

The Oak Island Police Department investigated the case.
