WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man pled guilty to charges related to a homicide in Wilmington in 2023.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, Altonio Johnson, 31, of Wilmington, pled guilty in New Hanover County Superior Court to charges related to the 2023 homicide of Micsha Fukiko Durham, 32, of Jacksonville.

Johnson pled to Second Degree Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and First Degree Kidnapping, and was sentenced by Judge R. Kent Harrell to at least 45 years in prison.

On April 11, 2023, Durham’s body was discovered in the bathroom of E.P. Godwin Stadium. Durham suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso and one to her leg. Additionally, the button on her pants was undone and there was a rip to the waistband.

Wilmington Police Department detectives – with help from community members coming forward with information – established that Durham had been last seen on Saturday, April 8, 2023, with Altonio Johnson. Around noon on Saturday, April 8, 2023, Altonio Johnson was riding through downtown on a WAVE Transit bus and saw Durham walking alone. Johnson got the bus driver to drop him off so he could pursue Durham. Johnson and Durham were then seen together at a downtown restaurant, riding the bus to the Long Leaf Park area, and eventually walking into E.P. Godwin Stadium.

Surveillance footage from across the stadium shows Johnson and Durham entering the stadium just before 4:00 p.m. and going in the bathroom area. Approximately fifteen minutes later, Johnson is seen on footage coming from the bathroom area, hopping the locked fence, and leaving on foot. Durham never left the bathroom. A short time after killing Durham, surveillance video depicts Johnson inside a vape shop opening his backpack to put his large knife into a sheath. Also inside the backpack are a bag of what appear to be Durham’s belongings.

Examination of Johnson’s cell phone revealed that he conducted searches on the internet for local news updates, specifically looking for, “body found in Wilmington nc [sic] today in the bathroom,” and other similar searches.

On April 10, 2023, still before Durham’s body was discovered, Johnson is again searching for. “body found at E.P. Godwin Stadium Wilmington nc [sic] today” and, “body found in the restroom e.p. godwin stadium [sic],” and other similar searches. Johnson was arrested on April 14, 2023 on an unrelated warrant and was charges with the homicide four days later.

“Altonio Johnson is a violent man whose conduct took the life of a young woman. Although no sentence could bring Micsha back to her family, this lengthy sentence and acceptance of responsibility brings the family legal closure to this matter,” said District Attorney Jason W. Smith. “This would not have been possible without the efforts of the Wilmington Police Department and the members of the community who contributed to the investigation.”
