Man identified in Figure 8 drowning

FIGURE EIGHT ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Deputies say the man who was pulled from the waters at Figure Eight Island died from a presumed drowning.

Rescue crews were called out to the beach at around 11:19 a.m. Monday. Deputies say Jose Rodriguez, 41, was in the water to assist with a friend when he went missing. Rodriguez was missing for about 20-30 minutes when he was brought back to shore by life guards and EMS.

Family members in Florida were notified of the death yesterday.
