Surf City shooting suspect now in custody

SURF CITY, N.C. (WWAY) – A 21-year-old felon wanted for a Saturday night shooting sent two to the hospital was arrested on Sunday night.

A female was shot in the leg and a male was shot in the hand. Both victims were promptly transported to the hospital by EMS for medical treatment.

The suspect, Devon Nikoli Veronesi, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and assault with a deadly weapon. Veronesi is accused of discharging a firearm into a home and later at the intersection of Pender Avenue and North Topsail Drive.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and currently there is no imminent threat to the public. The Surf City Police Department urges anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the police department at (910) 328-7711.
