Man dies after being impaled in crash with logging truck on NC 87

COLUMBUS COUNTY (WWAY) — A man was impaled in a crash with a logging truck on NC 87 in Riegelwood on Wednesday.

Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire-Rescue says a log 3 inches in diameter went into the lower left stomach of Vashawn Williams Jr. Williams was alert and talking as he was extricated from the truck. Williams received blood while being airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He underwent three surgeries Wednesday night and has succumbed to his injuries Thursday afternoon.
