Man pleads guilty in murder of NC pastor’s wife

WARRENTON, N.C. (WNCN) — One of two men charged with murder pleaded guilty Monday in the death of a Warren County pastor’s wife.

Kevin Burton Munn, who appeared in court Monday afternoon, was involved in the death of Nancy Alford, 76, on March 9, deputies say.

The home of John and Nancy Alford was also burned that day.

The married couple arrived at their Lake Gaston home the day of the incident and found two burglars inside.

Investigators said the pair forced Nancy to drive to a nearby bank and withdraw $1,000 from an ATM.

The pair then tied up the couple inside the house and set it on fire before driving away in the couple’s Mercedes.

John Alford, 82, served as pastor of Sanford Memorial Baptist Church in Brodnax, Virginia for more than a decade. His wife taught Sunday School at the church.

Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams said the couple was “targeted for robbery.”

John Alford was able to escape his restraints but he could not get his wife free before the flames became too unbearable.

He suffered severe burns, and Williams said he had to personally subdue Alford and prevent him from going back into the house.
