Man pleas guilty in Brunswick County court to two murders

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY)– A man pled guilty today in Brunswick County to not one, but two murders.

One of those killed was a North Carolina State Trooper.

Chauncy Askew pleaded guilty to two first-degree murder charges.

One plea is for the death of Trooper Kevin Connor in 2018.

The other for the murder of Jerome Parrot in 2016 in a deadly Columbus County shooting

Askew is also charged with felony possession of a firearm.

Initially, Askew would face the death penalty for Trooper Connor’s murder, but as a part of the plea agreement, his maximum sentence will be life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday morning at the Brunswick County Courthouse at 10 AM.
