Man sentenced in dozens of home break-ins


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — James Smallwood pleaded guilty today to 34 counts of breaking and entering and 33 counts of larceny among other charges.

The arrest stemmed from numerous home break-ins around the area. 

A judge sentenced Smallwood to a minimum of 6 years in prison and restitution of more than $83,000 with co-defendants.

Smallwood’s lawyer recommended he receive substance abuse treatment and educational or vocational training while he is in the Department of Corrections. The judge agreed to those terms.
