Man sentenced to prison after investigators uncover over 47,000 child sexual abuse files
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — On Thursday, a man plead guilty in court to having over 47,000 child sexual abuse photos and videos.
In June of 2022, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Cape Fear Community College that they discovered child sexual abuse material on a computer. The CFCC computer was used by 68-year-old, James Walter.
Detectives examined the CFCC computer, Walter’s iPhone, and several cloud storage accounts of Walter’s which led to the discovery of more than 47,000 individual images/videos of child sexual abuse material.
Walters entered a guilty plea to 12 counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Exploitation of a minor and 12 counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Exploitation of a minor.
Walters received an active sentence of 4 to 14 years and 30 years as a registered sex offender.
