Man serving up to 8 years in prison for a home break-in
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington man is going to prison for breaking into a home in Leland.
Today in Brunswick County court, a judge sentenced Darrell Wayne Handy, 57, to between five and eight years behind bars. Earlier in the day, Handy pleaded guilty to breaking into a Leland home in 2014 and stealing cash, a wallet and credit card.
Handy has previous felony convictions for breaking and entering and stealing cars.
“The defendant’s extensive criminal history justifies the long, active prison sentence,” said Assistant District Attorney Daniel Thurston, who prosecuted the case.
The Leland Police Department investigated the crime.
