Man stops in roadway to reattach trailer, killed after vehicle collision on I-40

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man was struck and killed along I-40 in Duplin County on Sunday evening.
The NC Highway Patrol says the crash took place around 8:14 p.m., when Raylee Josephine Greico of Raleigh crashed into a vehicle stopped to help Mildo Noel Velasquez reattach a trailer.
Highway Patrol says Velasquez and another vehicle traveling with him stopped in the roadway before exiting their vehicles to fix the trailer.
Greico allegedly failed to reduce speed and struck the back vehicle, causing it to crash into the trailer and strike Velasquez.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Greico was suspected of being impaired on marijuana. Highway Patrol says an evaluation later confirmed the presences of THC, and a blood sample was collected.
