Marine Corps celebrates 240th birthday with joint ceremony


CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (WWAY) — Camp Lejeune will commemorate the Marine Corps’ 240th birthday with a joint daytime ceremony Friday morning.

The ceremony will rededicate the national and Marine Corps colors. The birthday pageant will include the tradition cake-cutting and a procession of the Marine Corps period uniforms dating from 1775 to the present.

The ceremony, which starts at 10 a.m. at Liversedge Field on base, is open to the general public, but visitors will still to get a pass at the main gate visitor’s center.
