Marine Scholarship recipient encourages others to apply by March 1 deadline

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the children of those who served in the Marine Corps, the clock is ticking to apply for a national college scholarship.

Each year, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation awards more than 3,000 students with an average of $4,070 a year.

100% of eligible applicants receive the scholarship. All students need to qualify is be the child of a Marine, demonstrate a financial need, and have at least 2.0 GPA.

Wilmington native Aidan Taylor received the scholarship for several school years.

Taylor is the son of an infantry Marine who survived a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan.  He hopes to use his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont to become an aviation officer, following in his father’s footsteps.

“I really see it as an opportunity to give back once I’ve graduated. They’ve done all this for me, what can I do for them now,” Taylor said.

The deadline to apply to scholarship is March 1. You can apply by visiting the Marine Corps Scholarship website.
