Mark Robinson’s gubernatorial nomination sparks debate from both sides
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Just days after Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson won the Republican nomination for Governor, a group that calls itself the ‘Coalition against Robinson’s Extremism’ held a press conference in downtown Wilmington to highlight and talk about Robinson’s nomination.
Dan Crawford is the director of government relations for the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters.
He said Robinson’s views on many issues are not fit for the governor’s office of North Carolina.
“He is the gift that keeps on giving,” Crawford said. “Every time he opens his mouth, he offends somebody. From calling public schools indoctrination centers, from his calling climate change junk science to his views on LGBTQ issues to his views on, you know, Nazism, everything the man says is offensive and he can not be our next governor.”
“If we have a climate disaster, who do we want to be leading our state? Somebody who denies the root cause of that disaster?”
WWAY reached out to the New Hanover County GOP. Chairman Nevin Carr said quote… “At a time when our border is wide open, our national debt is through the roof, and people are having to take side jobs to cover the cost of inflation, it’s fitting to see a group of Democrats take time off during a work day to complain about someone offering solutions.”
Representative Deb Butler said North Carolina needs to understand who Mark Robinson is.
“He’s hypocritical, he’s critical of everybody and anything,” Butler said. “He doesn’t believe in science, he calls teachers evil, he calls the gay community filth and feces. That’s not leadership. Those would be disqualifiers under normal circumstances.”
A spokesman for Mark Robinson’s campaign said, quote:
“This is organized and funded by a far-left extremist group pushing radical priorities like defunding the police, working against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the rest of the failing Biden-Stein agenda. They’re completely out of step with everyday North Carolinians.”
Robinson will face off against Attorney General Josh Stein for North Carolina Governor in November’s general election.
