Mason Berne tabbed CAA Baseball Player of the Week

WILMINGTON, N.C. (UNCWSports.com) – Senior infielder Mason Berne hit .429 to help UNCW to a sweep of Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison and earn Player-of-the-Week honors for the second time this season.

Berne, who was previously named Co-Player-of-the-Week back on Mar. 26, went 6-for-14, double, homered and drove in six runs as the Seahawks earned a sweep of the Dukes. Berne provided the winning run on Saturday with a three-run homer that broke a 3-all deadlock in a 7-6 win.

Berne also extended his consecutive games reached safely to 40 and carries an eight-game hitting streak into this week’s action.

The Seahawks host nationally-ranked East Carolina on Wednesday before heading to Boston for three games against conference-leading Northeastern beginning on Friday.
