Mayor on HB2: ‘Wilmington will always be welcoming’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington city council members addressed House Bill 2 during a Tuesday night meeting.

During a public hearing, two people including a UNCW student spoke out against House Bill 2 and asked city council to protect LGBT rights in the Wilmington community.

Mayor Bill Saffo responded to them by saying Wilmington will always be a welcoming community.

Saffo also said council will take the community’s concerns to state leaders during their next meeting together.
