McCrory addresses HB2 during stop in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The governor addressed House Bill 2 during a stop in the port city today.

Pat McCrory said the issue on whether its discriminatory is now in the hands of the court.

Less than a month after McCrory signed House Bill 2 into law, he issued an executive order in response to the negative feedback over the controversial issue.

According to a news release, Executive Order 93 will “protect the privacy and equality of all residents.”

Recently, McCrory filed an action asking federal courts to declare the law does not discriminate against LGBT people. When we asked McCrory about his flip flopping opinions he denied them.

“I disagree with you 100%,” McCrory said. “I don’t know where you got that. I stated when I signed the bills, those areas that I had disagreements with, but the main concern I have right now is President Obama.”

McCrory said President Obama does not have the authority to make or interpret the law.

“The courts are going to have to decide this,” McCrory said. “This decision shouldn’t be made by the president of the United States. He doesn’t have the authority. He has the authority to enforce the law but not make or interpret the law.”
