McCrory’s NC health secretary steps down from job
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory’s health and human services secretary is leaving her post after nearly three years.
McCrory announced Wednesday the departure of Dr. Aldona Wos (vahsh) of Greensboro at a news conference at the Executive Mansion. He praised Wos for improving Medicaid’s finances. The governor says her replacement will be former health care executive Rick Brajer.
Wos is a medical doctor who supported McCrory in his 2012 campaign for governor. She took the Cabinet-level post for a $1 annual salary and led the agency through difficult times financially.
But Wos is leaving the Department of Health and Human Services with its Medicaid program in an improved position. The agency announced Tuesday it finished the fiscal year with a positive cash balance for the second year in a row.
