Meals on Wheels serves home-bound seniors in the Cape Fear
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Since 1990, Meals on Wheels has been helping home-bound seniors have hot meals.
The Golden Corral on New Center Drive partnered up with them this weekend to serve those hot meals to multiple areas in the cape fear.
“We serve seniors from Castle Hayne all the way down to Kure Beach Village, and they get a hot meal every Saturday and Sunday.”
Cyndi Hall is the program coordinator for Weekend Meals on Wheels and says this is much more than a job to her.
“I really feel like I’m making a difference in the lives of a lot of people, you know, allowing them to remain in their homes.”
Along with Golden Corral, Jaguar Land Rover Cape Fear also partners with Meals on Wheels, providing transport vehicles and volunteers.
One of those volunteers is Jamie Penn…..Who drives meals to home-bound seniors.
“Yeah, so, I love doing this. When you take the meal up to an individual that needs it, it’s just, you can see it on their faces, the appreciation.”
Meals on Wheels is one of the few ways to foster community with other businesses that want to get involved.
“It brings people together. I think when businesses partner with the community in this way, it feeds employees, it feeds the people who are receiving the meals, they see that everyone is coming together, kind of, to support each other.”
