Meeting discusses possible future of College Acres
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There could be a new development coming to College Acres Drive, bringing town homes to the road. A meeting was held because many of the home owners in the area are worried because this will bring more students to the area and could lead to more trouble. The project would bring a 45 unit town home to the area and would mostly house students of UNCW.
“The neighborhood has kind of changed over time as some of these houses that are in the neighborhood, a lot of the houses on College Acres Drive have become student housing that are leased out by individual home owners,” member of the College Acres project team George Johnson said.
However, many of the neighbors who live around that area are not too happy with the plan. They are afraid this will bring unnecessary trouble to the area and are hoping the plan isn’t passed by the city.
“We’d rather they don’t do anything to that section. It’s not fair to the people who have invested in their homes for, as you heard, 51 years. Then all of a sudden, they face something that is really traumatic to them,” College Acres Good Neighbors Association President Leroy West.said.
The rezoning request will be presented to the Wilmington Planning Commission on September 5th. The neighbors plan to go out to that meeting to express their disapproval of this project.
