Memorial service held for 4 young girls killed in house fire in Chadbourn
CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — Family and friends of 4 children who were killed in a house fire in Chadbourn more than a week ago gathered Tuesday evening for the first of two memorial services for the children.
The fire happened around 2:30 in the morning on Saturday, August 30th.
There were six children home at the time.
The two oldest were able to escape, but the four youngest, Kalani, Kendall, Josephina, and Sophia Melvin, died in the fire.
Earlier today, officials announced the cause of the fire remains “officially undetermined.”
Investigators say they have found no evidence to suggest the fire was started intentionally.
The official Celebration of Life service for the children is scheduled for Saturday at 2 pm at Worley Mortuary on Sandy Street in Fairmount.
